The payroll industry has a payments problem. We're fixing it.

Each time we look at how a Payroll Provider or Global Payroll team handles payments, we keep arriving at the same uncomfortable conclusion: the infrastructure underneath one of the world's most critical business functions is being held together with legacy banks/payment providers and manual processes that have no business being anywhere near a payroll run.

The banks and traditional payments providers historically supporting  this space weren't built for payroll. They could pay globally but didn't understand the complexities and different requirements for paying Statutory payments (e.g. needing specific local accounts/reference for paying the local tax authorities). They were generalists operating in a specialist space, and payroll teams were paying the price: unreliable settlement, and workflows still reliant on bank files that carry genuine GDPR and human error risk. For the most sensitive payments in the world (paying someone’s mortgage or tax bill), this wasn’t viable. 

So we went after the market systematically.

I used the Everest Group Peak Matrix for Multi-Country Payroll as my map, the independent ranking of who's supporting global payroll teams. Today, Navro partners with a substantial number of those providers. Not because the pitch was clever, but because the problem was real and the people we were speaking to knew it intimately. Navro has built the solution by acquiring: the deep expertise to process all payroll payments, in-house SMEs who have worked in Global Payroll like Jonny Nash, our Global head of Payroll, EoR, & Pension Payments, and importantly the regional banking & partner connections.

My new role, Global Head of Strategic Alliances, reflects where we are in that journey. Building the partner network was phase one. Phase two is driving value internally. Partly through supporting our partner’s clients who currently use them for Payments But, also through helping our Global Payroll partners drive payment adoption through replacing their client’s manual, risk prone bank file processes with an integrated/automated payments process that handles all payroll payments, not just the simple net salaries..
