Member Data Administration & Tracing

Your payment provider can move money. It cannot tell you if the right person is receiving it.

Most providers in the pension payments market have one job: execute the instruction they're given. Whether the member is alive, traceable, or correctly identified is not their concern. It remains yours. Navro is the only provider that handles both, connecting member verification to payment execution in a single platform, with one audit trail from existence check to payment.

SPEAK TO THE TEAM

THE PROBLEM

Most schemes are paying with incomplete information

Foreseeable losses don’t matter to auditors

Pension payments are a zero-tolerance product. That standard applies to trustees personally. Paying a deceased member, an unverified address, or the wrong beneficiary is not an administrative slip. It is a foreseeable loss, and regulators treat foreseeable losses differently from accidents. "We didn't know" is not a defence when the tools to know exist.

Pension Overpayments are a common issue

£500m+ in UK pension overpayments is tied to undetected deaths alone. That figure excludes payments sent to wrong addresses, assets that never reached the right beneficiary, and liability calculations distorted by missing spouse data. Every one is preventable. The question regulators ask is whether trustees took reasonable steps.

Fragmented Audit Trail

Most schemes cannot demonstrate that they did. Not because the data doesn't exist. Because their payment provider and their tracing supplier are separate companies, running separate systems, producing outputs that nobody has consolidated into a single record. The audit trail is fragmented. When something goes wrong, there is no clean answer.

Navro: the closed loop your current setup does not have

Navro is the only provider that connects member data administration to payment execution. Tracing, verification, mortality screening, and beneficiary identification sit on the same platform that processes the payment. The right person is verified before any money moves. Trustees get one contract, one data environment, and one audit trail that runs from the first existence check to the payment confirmation.

Competitors can offer you part of this. None can offer you all of it.

Address Tracing

Every year, more members move without updating their details. Tracing tools return results at varying confidence levels, and a low-confidence result introduces enough doubt that it cannot be acted on. Standard providers give you that uncertainty and leave you to manage it.

Navro's address tracing service draws on credit reference data, pre-loan application records, and internal historical data to confirm current address status and return verified new addresses. On average, it produces 25% more usable, high-confidence results than competing tracing tools.

Address Verification

Even good automated tracing leaves a grey zone: results that are not wrong but not certain enough to rely on. Most schemes sit on those results. The member is unresolved. The risk stays open.

Navro's verification service reaches out directly to those members to confirm their address, converting uncertain results into verified ones. It covers every member who has moved, not just the straightforward cases.

Mortality Screening

Every month a deceased member receives a payment is a month of foreseeable, recoverable loss. Standard mortality screens catch the obvious cases but miss members in care homes or living with relatives, populations that don't appear on death records but are no longer living independently. Overseas members sit entirely outside routine UK screening.

Navro's mortality screening uses official UK Government data and specifically targets the populations other screens miss. The result is 15% more deceased members identified compared to other providers, with a documented record of what was screened, when, and with what outcome.

Beneficiary / Next of Kin Tracing

When a member dies, the scheme's obligation does not end. It transfers. Failing to locate the right beneficiary is not a neutral outcome. Assets go unclaimed, regulatory exposure grows, and the trustee has no clean record of what steps were taken.

Navro's automated beneficiary tracing finds a high-confidence match for an average of 80% of members, giving schemes a documented outcome for the vast majority of cases.

Marital Status & Spouse Tracing

Liability calculations for buy-in and buy-out are only as accurate as the data behind them. Missing or incorrect spouse information creates pricing risk that compounds through the process. Errors found late are expensive. Errors found after completion are worse.

Navro identifies marital status and spouse details across the full membership, with results categorised into clear relationship types and spouse date of birth included. On average, a spouse is identified for 86% of members.

Email & Mobile Append

Schemes that can only reach members by post are slower to verify, slower to resolve, and slower to respond when something changes. Digital contact is not a nice-to-have. It is the difference between a verification process that takes weeks and one that takes days.

Navro sources consent-based contact data from financial providers, appending a verified email address for an average of 60% of members.

Manual Forensic Tracing

Some members have no data footprint that automated tools can reach. Their cases sit open, beneficiaries unfound, assets unclaimed. For these situations, complexity is the norm: relatives in unusual circumstances, members lost to the system for years.

An experienced manual tracing team takes over where automation stops, locating members, relatives, and beneficiaries that no standard tool has been able to find.

THE COMPETITIVE GAP

What payments-only providers cannot give you

They cannot offer Proof of Life

Providers like Convera are payments businesses. They optimise for FX rates, payment rail coverage, and execution speed. These are real strengths. What they cannot do, is tell you whether the member receiving that payment is still alive, still has the same address, or is the right person to receive it.

They cannot offer a fail-safe Audit Trail

Proof of Life is the difference between a payment operation that is efficient and one that is defensible. A trustee who can demonstrate that payments were fast and cheap, but cannot show that recipients were verified, has not met the standard. The regulatory question is not speed. It is due diligence.

Only Navro offers a closed loop

Navro is the only provider in the UK pension payments market that closes this loop. The audit trail runs from existence check to payment confirmation, inside one platform. No other provider offers that. The playing field is not level, and it will not be, because this capability requires a combination of member data infrastructure and payment execution that payments-only businesses are not built to provide.

WHY CHOOSE A SOLE PROVIDER

Why fragmentation is a fiduciary problem

Avoid a fragmented Audit Trail

When tracing and payment sit with different suppliers, the audit trail is split between them. Different systems. Different outputs. No single record of what was checked, when, what the result was, and what payment followed. If a trustee needs to demonstrate due diligence, that fragmented picture is not a clean answer.

or

One data environment and one clear record

With Navro as sole provider, every service runs through a single data environment. Deduplication is automatic. Results feed directly into payment execution. Trustees get one clear record, the kind that demonstrates reasonable steps were taken and supports a defensible position.
