We’re seeking a Part-Time Legal Counsel to join our fast-growing FinTech team!

We're looking for an enthusiastic and driven Legal Counsel to join our dynamic and growing team. We’re flexible on hours for this new role—anywhere from 12 to 20 hours per week, with potential to go full-time if that’s of interest. Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing strategic advice on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters
  • Drafting/negotiating a wide range of legal agreements, including client and vendor agreements, partnership/supply agreements and referral/reseller agreements
  • Identifying and flagging key regulatory issues and legal risks
  • Providing support in interpreting new regulations
  • Advising on payments regulatory matters, including compliance with payments laws in the UK and Europe.
  • Keeping company agreement templates in line with the changing laws, regulations and business needs
  • Advising on data privacy related issues
  • Partnering with our commercial, product, risk, treasury, and compliance teams, acting as a real-time legal advisor to understand their needs and help find creative solutions to achieve business objectives
  • Providing legal support for the development, launch, management and expansion of innovative payment products and services
  • Providing legal input into the development and implementation of internal policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you:

  • Be a UK-qualified solicitor or barrister, with some relevant EU experience, with 5-6 years of PQE
  • Have financial services, payments or other regulatory experience
  • Have previous in-house experience, preferably in a start-up or scale-up
  • Be able to communicate complex legal issues to non-legal, or non-financial services, audience
  • Have a keen eye for detail and a proactive, can-do attitude
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels, including senior executives
  • Have a passion for working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where creativity is encouraged
  • Have a desire to broaden your expertise and take on new challenges

Desirable:

  • Experience in advising on financial regulation pertaining to operational resilience, consumer is particularly advantageous
  • Genuine interest in payments, fintech and innovative financial products
  • Understanding of the Interchange Fee Regulations, Cross Border Payment Regulations, DORA, Consumer Duty, Money Laundering Directives
  • Understanding of  payments, fintech, banking, or securities industries Experience of working closely with financial services regulators – whether as a regulator, within a regulated firm or advising regulated firms
